Submission Guidelines
Tuesday, July 21st, 2009 by TheWebMistress
So, you want your post to appear on the Lip Service Webzine; here are some important things to keep in mind.
General guidelines (a few things to ask yourself before submitting):
- Is it an interesting article? We are not a blog, so shoot for writing an actual article, not a random thought or opinion.
- Is it well-written? Ask yourself, if you hadn’t written it, would you want to read it?
- Is it publish-ready? Is the spelling, grammar, and punctuation right? If our editor needs to make major corrections, your piece will not be published, period. Improve your chances of success by checking BEFORE you hit the “Submit” button.
Fashion Freaks submissions:
- We are very open to whatever others in the Lip Service community might be interested in reading. Send us info on your local scene, reviews of books, movies, places, and events, or whatever you might want to share!
- We are most interested in discovering your creative projects, so let us know what you’re working on so we can shine the spotlight your way!
- Send us your best photos in Lip Service gear. We never, ever tire of eye candy!
- Some of our regular Blacklist columnists and writers started by submitting a piece or two to us so, if you’d like to be a regular writer on the Lip Service ‘zine, use our rather open submission policy to show us writing we want to see every week. If we love your writing, we will want to see more of it, so give us your best.
Potential for the Blacklist (aka – So you want us to publish you regularly and give you stuff?)
- The Blacklist are writers we have either solicited or discovered through the submissions process, who we love and want to publish regularly. They have columns and features which update from one a month to every week, so are definitely able to write lots of interesting articles and do it on a schedule.
- We love inviting emerging writers to the Blacklist, so are fine with what you CAN do rather than what you have already done. If you don’t have a collection of clippings, don’t sweat it. Just make sure you have several good samples which show your writing style and we’ll take it from there. We may ask you to create some new articles for us on specific topics (with compensation, of course) just to see whether you can write about what we want to feature when we need it.
- We can not reinterate this enough … if you would like to be published on the Lip Service ‘zine, please make sure your submissions have been proofed for spelling, grammar, and punctuation. If your submissions or samples require major corrections, we will not publish them.
- Blacklist writers are compensated wth credits for the Lip Service webstore. If we like your style and want to invite you to join the Blacklist, we will give you more details.
