At the Movies with Alice Cooper (and Chad Cherry)!

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012 by Chad Cherry

MASCARA and MONSTERS
At the movies with a fistful of Alice Cooper.

Seeing that Lip-Service is ghoulish enough to be giving away Alice Cooper concert tickets (Check out the Lip Service Events Calendar or the Official Alice Cooper Tour Terror page for more details and show dates!) it is imperative that we go over Alice’s filmography this month and check out some of the amazing flicks he has shined in! Not only just a mere rockstar is he, but a true creep on your t.v. as well. But you should all know this by now.

Alice has been “Feeding your Frankenstein” for movie addiction since 1970 when the original Alice Cooper Band had a cameo appearance performing at a loft party in the “Diary of a Mad Housewife.” Your eyeballs must feast upon his concert/feature film’s, episode guest star action, TV specials, documentary and feature films. Here’s the rundown.

1974: “Good to See You Again.” A movie slash concert. Great footage from the “Billion Dollar Baby” tour!!! I stole this one from Danny Smash’s collection. (He’s my bass player.) He’ll never know cuz he never reads my shit. That fucker! Hey Danny. What do you call a guy that hangs out with musicians? A bass player. I joke, I kid..

1975: “Alice Cooper: The Nightmare.”  It was a concept television special with the music of the Welcome To My Nightmare album. (Had this on VHS. It had one of those puffy ass cases that was the size of a pillow. Vincent Prince is in this too!)

1976: “Welcome to My Nightmare.” Purely horror-themed concert chaos!

1977: “Alice Cooper and Friends.” A live TV music special (Damn, old television rules!) This was the first night of Cooper’s “King of the Silver Screen” tour, in support of his album Lace and Whiskey.

1978: “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.” In this oddball but cool film filled with the best drugged out era rock stars ever, Alice plays “Father Sun.” That same year Alice hit up The Muppet Show! Youtube it. NOW!

1979: “The Strange Case of Alice Cooper.”  concert footage from the “Madhouse Rock” Tour in support of the album “From The Inside.”

1980: “Roadie.” The film has Meat Loaf in it. (Not that kinda Loaf! The rock star “Meat!”) There are also cameo appearances by musicians such as Roy Orbison, Hank Williams Jr., Blondie and the Coop.

1982: “Alice Cooper a Paris.” Commonly known as Alice in Paris but it’s a French television thing.. What can ya do?

1985: “Monster Dog.” Holy shit! It’s a monster… dog. “Identity Crisis” is the main tune.”Classic flick!

1987: “Alice Cooper: The Nightmare Returns.” The concert was filmed live in Detroit, Michigan, USA on Halloween! And that same year he played the possessed demonic killing street bum zombie that looked exactly like him self without stage clothes on that stabs a dude with a tireless bicycle in John Carpenter’s under rated bad ass of a movie “Prince of Darkness.”

1988: “The Decline of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years.” Highlights for me in that documentation are Alice, Steven Tyler, Joe Perry and fuckin’ Lemmy.

1990: “Alice Cooper Trashes the World.” The concert was filmed in Birmingham, England. Awesome cod piece!

1991: “Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare.” Alice is Mr. Underwood. Iggy Pop sings the theme music.

1992: “Wayne’s World.” We are definitely “Not worthy.”

1995: ” Something Wilder – “Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper” and  “Space Ghost Coast to Coast – Girlie Show.”

1997: “A Fistful of Alice.” TV Special.

2000: “Alice Cooper: Brutally Live.” Concert goods.

2001: “That ’70s Show – “Radio Daze” episode: Alice Cooper made a mid-show cameo where he is in Eric Forman’s dream, and a cameo in the end credits where he is playing Dungeons and Dragons. And “The Attic Expeditions” feature film.

2005: “Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey.” Cool documentary.

2006: ” Monk – “Mr. Monk and the Garbage Strike” episode: Alice Cooper appeared as a murder suspect in a fantasy sequence. And Alice Cooper: Live at Montreux concert video.

2009: “Suck.” A movie about vamps.. That are rockers.

2010: “Horrorween” Horror comedy starring f/x master Tom Savini about a group of people hunting Zombies. Horrorween is a homage to John Carpenter’s classic Halloween.

2012: “Dark Shadows” A new film based on the 1966–1971 gothic horror soap opera of the same name. The film is directed by Tim Burton and stars Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins, a 200-year-old vampire. Alice completely rocks the party!

Whew! You have a lot of shit to watch before one of you lucky cretins win those tickets!!!! So even away from music, Cooper is a film actor, a golfing celebrity, a restaurateur and, a popular radio DJ with his classic rock show “Nights with Alice Cooper” and he was inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Wow! I better get busy if I wanna keep up with the COOP! Some of the above Alice stuff I recommended still isn’t on DVD so you will have to dig deep if yer a real Cooper junkie like me.
DO NOT FORGET TO KEEP GLUED TO LIP SERVICE WEBZINE TO FIND OUT IF YOU WON COOPER TICKETS!!!

As for me, I’ve been in the New York City Groove for the last month enjoying the “Big Apple” for all the right reasons. Gettin’ geared up for summer time shows, festivals and song writing with my ever-so-scatter-around-the-world band, The Last Vegas. I still don’t know how we balance all this shit when we’re always in different parts of the planet at times, but that’s our style. Everywhere all at once. Life is good.

The Devil Inside: Susanna Lo

Tuesday, February 14th, 2012 by TheWebMistress

Manson Girls

Sex, drugs, and an infamous Rock & Roll deal gone murderous in the Summer of ’69.

Susanna Lo was first noticed for her stylistic 35 milometer feature film, Black & White: A Love Story, which she wrote, directed and produced at the age of twenty-six. The film was accepted into the American Independents at The Berlin Film Festival and went on to win a best directing and best feature film award in Montreal. At the 1996 Berlinale, Joe Leydon of Variety describes Lo as an intelligent writer who scrupulously avoids predictable melodrama.

Lo was born in Hong Kong on February 20, 1966 and raised by a single father, Christopher P.W. Lo, and an aunt, Such Shih “Winnie” Lo, in Honolulu, Hawaii. She was raised as a Catholic by her father and a Buddist by her aunt, and attended Waikiki Elementary School and Star of the Sea High School. Lo made films with a Super 8 camera since she was seven years old and went on to study film production at Loyola Marrymount University. As a sophomore, Lo competed with graduated students and won a best film award with her student short, Trapped.

Lo has expressed her admiration for filmmakers, Ingmar Bergman, Michelangelo Antonion, Luis Bunuel and Jean Cocteau. A painter in her own right, she has also sited Fernand Leger and Salvador Dali as inspirations for her work, is also a big fan of Spanish auteur Pedro Almodovar, and has seen every feature film he’s directed since Pepi, Luci, Bom and Other Girls Like Mom to Broken Embraces. She’s also admired the work of David Lynch since she first saw Eraserhead, considering Almodóvar and Lynch to be the best living directors of our times. Lo does most of her writing while listening to Chopin or Paganini.

Awards
•    Montreal Festival, Best Director for Black & White: A Love Story, 1996
•    Montreal Festival, Best Feature for Black & White: A Love Story, 1996
•    Exground Film Festival, Germany, Best Film for Black & White: A Love Story 1995
•    Torino Film Festival, Directing Achievement for Black & White: A Love Story, 1997

MANSON GIRLS
In her upcoming 2011 feature film, Manson Girls, Lo tells the infamous story of the Manson Family through the perspective of eight of the girls who followed Manson. The film takes place during the early years of the eight girls’ life and ends one minute before the Tate/LaBianca murders.

Charles Manson remains one of America’s most notorious murder masterminds — even 42 years after the infamous killing spree that shocked and terrified the nation. And writer/director Susanna Lo tells the story of the women who devoted themselves to him and killed at his command. She told me she became intrigued in the story when she discovered a common thread among the girls — typically a troubled childhood — that enabled C. Manson to capture their minds and hearts while molding them into cold-blooded killers.

Actress Taryn Manning plays Sadie Atkins, who died in prison while serving time for her role in the murders. Manning said she’s loved “sinking her teeth into the role,” but added that filming has been very intense and some of the graphic scenes actually made her sick. Monica Keena plays Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme, who was not involved in the murders but was a devoted follower imprisoned for attempting to assassinate then-president Gerald Ford. Bill Moseley will be playing the notorious Charles Manson in the Manson Girls, which is set to hit theaters in late 2012.

Susanna quote:
“Every time someone implies they can do a better job as a filmmaker after seeing one of my films, I’d like to give them a buck and a day more than I had to make it. In the case of “Black & White…”, that would be $42,001 and 11 days for a 35mm feature. Good luck!”

Susanna and I had a lot to talk about. Here’s some of our conversation…

Chad Cherry: Who gave you your nickname “Zanna?”

Susanna Lo: It literally comes from the poem but it’s starts with an X

C.C. Xanadu?

S.L. Not the movie.

(And into the first two minutes of this interview we both started singing songs from the Xanadu sound track and completely forgot about what we were suppose to be doing.)

C.C. You are a member of PENN International and have taught classes to under-privileged high school students through PENN in the Classroom. Can you tell me a little bit about this?

S.L. It was a fantastic program that doesn’t go on anymore. I had a friend that was running “PENN in the Classroom” and approached me to see if I would teach screen writing in high schools and, at first, they assigned me to schools in Beverly Hills/etc and those kids do not need some one to teach them how to write screen plays, they’ll just ask Mom and Dad for the job, ya know what I mean? So I said stick me in neighborhoods where kids actually need this programs like this. So I went to the Echo Park area, Marshall High. The kids were amazing. It’s kinda shocking cuz I went to High School when it was innocent; now kids go through metal detectors. It’s unbelievable. There where kids in my class who came with hand cuffs and shackles on because they came from juvenile detention; too young for prison and they still were required to go to High School, so there were guards right outside the class room door. These kids had amazing stories and I think that it was much more satisfying for me than it was for them. I learned a lot from them.

C.C. You been writing and directing films since you were six years old. Obviously filmmaking is in your blood. What drives you?

S.L. Well, I’ve never wanted to be anything else. Even as a little kid I used to write. My dad was a computer programer and I would steal his notebooks and, ya know when you would draw pictures on each one of the pages and then flip from the front to the back so it looks like its moving? That’s what I used to do. I’d go thru all his note books and do that. He was like “Get this kid into photography or painting … or something! She’s gonna steal all my notebooks!” Its completely his fault, though, ’cause he used to take me to Double Features every Sunday, and I would look up at the screen and say,”That’s what I want to do. I’m making that.” Double Feature was my food.

C.C. How many languages do you know?

S.L. Fluently, 5.

C.C. You’ve created some great films, but I wanna talk about your most recent work on The Manson Girls movie, what you are working on as we speak. This is a very heavy story to tackle, something that literally shocked the world. Do you remember where you were when you first heard of the Tate/LaBianca murders?

S.L. Well, I wasn’t even in the U.S. I was too young and still living in Hong Kong, where I was born, and the first I heard of it was after we moved here, when I was 4 1/2 in 1970, and my dad would watch the trials on tv. Very insane, as a 5 year old, I remember. “Dad take me back to Hong Kong. This place is scary!” I think it was more in my high school time, junior high, when the commercials for Heltler Skelter would come on, and it terrified me. It was like “Oh no! Not that story again. Dad take me back to Hong Kong!” It changed the world, but I really think it changed America. People used to never lock their doors.

C.C.  The Summer of Love.

S.L. Violence happened to the President, or it happened to Martin Luther King, it happened in Nam. It didn’t happen at your back door or neighbors house. It was shocking.

C.C. Making a movie through the perspective of eight of the girls who followed Charlie Manson seems a li’l different than the beaten-down stories that have been done in the past. The film takes place during the early years of the eight girls’ life, right?

S.L.  Yea, pretty much. It shows how they got seduced by the cult, if  you want to use that word, and their time at Spahn Ranch, but it ends a minute before the Tate/LaBianca murders. I didn’t have any interest in telling about the murders and exploiting the families of the murder victims. That’s not the story I’m telling. I’m blown away by how this man could seduce all these girls, and what the correlation was between all of them that made it relatively easy for him seduce them, not just into a cult, but in a cult to murder.

C.C. Do you think Manson would’ve plotted this evil if he got a record deal like he wanted? I wonder if he would’ve went ballistic if he got to be a rockstar like he was aiming for?

S.L. In my opinion, probably not if his ego got satisfied. Hitler was a failed artist also. And here’s Manson hanging out with all the right people, Dennis Wilson, Terry Melcher. He wanted an album–that was implied by Terry Melcher–but then they started to catch on that things were really too weird. And he wasn’t as talented, not that things can’t be properly produced, but back then, in that era, everybody was very very talented. You know, we’re talking Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, The Beatles. The Doors (which I love), Bob Dylan. His music wasn’t that impressive, and he wasn’t talking about anything unique. He wasn’t brilliant.

C.C. Mankind is appalled by demented minds (realistic or fictional), sex, drugs, violence and death. Yet horrific stories like “The Manson Murders” will be the subject of conversation everywhere, still, to this day. Personally, I feel that, deep inside of us, we all have insect minds and are primal when it comes to evil and violence. It’s why we all stare at car accidents or watch the news. Why do you think humans are attracted to horrific reality?

S.L. I think because there’s good and evil inside ourselves. The evil we see outside, we are attracted to because we think that we could get there ourselves. And we could do that. But, most people will never admit to that. I think that’s why people are fixated and fasinated by it. That’s my perspective.

C.C. Agreed.

C.C. Thinking about questions to ask you made me feel like I needed to go watch cartoons after reading about all this.

S.L. I’m like that every ten pages into the script. Usually it takes a few weeks, this one took a year because I had to go watch a bunch of romantic comedies while I’m working. It’ a horrific story.

C.C. It is a horrific story but I don’t think you are doing a horror movie. I feel it’s a realistic drama that is scary because it happened.

S.L. Basically it’s a character driven movie with an ensemble female cast. It’s based on true events.

C.C. “Manson Girls” has a fantastic cast with some new and old faces like  Monica Keena (‘Night of the Demons’), Laura Harring (‘One Missed Call’), Heather Matarazzo (‘Scream 3′), Stella Maeve (‘My Super Psycho Sweet 16: Part 2′), Brit Morgan (‘True Blood’), Tania Raymonde (‘Lost’), Gillian Zinser (’90210′), Taryn Manning (‘Hawaii Five-0′) and the gorgeous Estella Warren (‘Planet of the Apes’). Great to see my buddy Mr. Bill Moseley in this! He’s perfect for the part. You gotta love working with Bill and Priscilla Barnes. I think the actors in this movie couldn’t be more perfect for the roles.

S.L. And Patti D’ Arbanville! She was around in 1969 and dating Dennis Wilson at the time. She was in Andy Warhol’s “Flesh!” So it’s really amazing. And Priscilla Barnes, I’ve been watching forever, and we got along the moment we met. And I’m such a big fan of Laura Harring from “Mulholland Drive.”

C.C. David Lynch is the master.

S.L. Oh, I know, he’s amazing! One of Americas best film makers, for sure.

C.C. What are your plans after the dust settles from this film?

S.L. I’ll have my first book published, called “Alma Of My Heart”, and will be working on having that be a film. I also have another one I think people will be interested in called “Rip Her”, based on Jack The Ripper. It’s a women’s story on that. And I have a really fun film coming up called “8 1/2.” It’s about legendary actresses who all end up in the same retirement home, broke, and a sadistic producer who decides to use them all shows up dead one day. One of them murders him. I’m excited.

C.C. Me too!

* Side Note: After this interview Susanna’s book “Alma Of My Heart” went to #1 for Kindle in Love and Romance.

ALMA OF MY HEART
The Novel ALMA OF MY HEART is a timeless story of love, hope, and triumph over loss and despair. Irena Montoya and Tatiana Jones come from two entirely different worlds.

C.C. I do this to everybody, Susanna.. Who’s your favorite rock-n-roll band? Besides The Last Vegas.

S.L. THE DOORS.

C.C. YES!!!!!

Make sure ya check it out! MANSON GIRLS. Coming soon.

*End note:
I’ll see you in Spain. It’s tour time for THE LAST VEGAS!
LOVE the Mayhem!

The Devil Inside: Horror Legend Michael Berryman

Thursday, November 17th, 2011 by Chad Cherry

“GOD HATES THE LORDS OF SALEM.
NO ONE CAN DESTROY THEM.”

The Devil Inside:
Thursday, November 3. 2011 12:00 p.m… It’s storming outside.. I think I’ll call…

MICHAEL BERRYMAN

Michael John Berryman was born in L.A. California. Prior to acting and playing the menace in countless horror and sci-fi groovie movies and television, M.B. worked in the floral profession. Did I just write that correctly?

M.J.B. is probably best known for his role as Pluto in Wes Craven’s 1977 horror film The Hills Have Eyes and the 1985 sequel The Hills Have Eyes II. He appeared in the Academy Award-winning drama One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest in 1975 (!!!!). He has also made appearances in the Sci-Fi movies My Science Project, Weird Science, Armed Response, Evil Spirits and The Guyver. (I remember him in an X-Files episode too.) In 2005, he starred in Rob Zombie’s The Devil’s Rejects and is currently doing Rob’s upcoming horror film The Lords of Salem. A coven of ancient witches will be paying a visit to the town of Salem, Massachusetts. (I love them already). A local DJ plays a cursed record and unwittingly unleashes a coven of 300-year old witches who were secretly imprisoned and tortured during the Salem Witch Trails. The Lords Of Salem is the third film from Haunted Films, the first two being Paranormal Activity and Insidious.

I also wanna talk about Michael’s roll as Gunnar in Justin Thomas Ostensen’s BELOW ZERO. I’m gonna givin’ him a ringy ding to see what’ shakin’. Penned by Signe Olynyk, Below Zero is the true-life story of Jack the Hack, a screenwriter with writer’s block who arranges to have himself locked in a meat cooler in order to meet a looming deadline. (Still ringing…) As the temperature drops, the lines between reality and fiction blur, and Jack’s story comes to life, exposing him to a world of horror that only a meat freezer can inspire.

M.B. Hello, Chad!

C.C. Hiya M.B.!!!

C.C. Hey Michael. First off, I wanna let the people know that you’ve been scaring the shit out of audiences for over 35 years, playing terrifying roles in horror and sci-fi cinema. Although, in reality you are a very sweet human being… And there’s no getting around it… You are actually a nice guy Michael. Sorry to blow your cover man.

M.B. Oh, gee. I agree with you. I’m very human each day and I think it’s something we should all strive for. I think it’s important. And thank you by the way.

C.C. I live by love and respect man.

M.B. I agree!

C.C. Let’s talk about the film you recently did in Canada called BELOW ZERO.

M.B. Well, I star in it with Edward Furlong and Kristin Booth and it’s a beautiful psychological thriller and I think we shot it in like 15 days, it was amazing. We threw ourselves into it and between the camera choices, the music and the art department it was wonderful. Eddie plays a screen writer that has writers block and his agent says “I’m gonna have you shipped off to the woods, your gonna be locked in a meat locker in a slaughter house and you can’t come out for 5 day until you have a finished manuscript other wise you won’t have an agent any more.” That’s kinda the premise, then things start to happen and you start to wonder “Is he losing his mind or is this what he’s writing?” Hmmmm? I’ve seen the movie a bunch of times and it was really well received at the Calvary Film Festival and at the Austin Film Festival most recently and right now it’s being pitched to the film market in Santa Monica. I love the independent film family.
This one is my best to date. I’m very proud of the roll. So have your fans go check it. It’s really a great movie and ya know what, you can watch it over and over and get something more out of it.

C.C. It was gonna be in 3D right?

M.B. They were thinking of 3D but the performances were so strong and the camera work was so well done that 3D would of been a distraction.

C.C. To me, that’s good news.

M.B. I’m not a big fan of 3D actually. I’ve never seen it really work properly. I did appreciate it as a kid seeing Jason and the Argonauts. That worked for me but at the end of the day if I was a producer or a director I wouldn’t waste my money on it.

C.C. Agreed.

C.C. You are working on a twisted witch movie called The Lords Of Salem as we speak. I’m sure you are under contract to not say much as of yet but can ya tell us a little bit about the character Virgil Magnus that you’re playing?

M.B. Well contractually I’m very limited of what I can speak of, I signed on the dotted line. I can say that I’m working with my good friends Rob and Sheri.. The Zombies. They’re very sweet people. Ken Foree is on board! My scenes are with my good friend Bill Moseley and we’re in the opening scene with a lil’ bit of the back story and I can’t say too much but it’s about the Salem witch trials and we get constricted with some trouble haha!

C.C. Don’t say any more! We won’t spoil any goods. I just wanted to talk about the utmost recent thing you’re doin’ and where you’re at right now.

M.B. I don’t even know what the rest of the story is. I don’t have the complete script haha.

C.C.  The Lords Of Salem will quite possibly be one of Rob Zombie’s darkest films. You must be thrilled.

M.B. I like working with Rob, his productions go very smooth, all his people he has on board are very gracious and professional. You’re in good company with Rob. I haven’t read to much about it, I like to come on board to a project and then focus on what my director needs.

C.C. And all of you guys get along really well.

M.B. We do. We are all friends and family. We do conventions together, we travel together, we’ve been friends for decades. I’ve been friends with Rob for about 5 years now and Bill Moseley, Ken Foree, Sid Haig and Kane Hodder and the rest are one big happy family. Kinda nice.

C.C. You guys are like the horror brat pack.

M.B. You’re right actually. That’s a great idea. I’ve been in discussions with my manager about me possibly hosting a t.v. series. The beauty of me doing film ya know, unless you are a young model or something, as a character actor I can play any role I want and if I get older that’s ok! I’m so glad I’m not a glamour boy cuz then I’d be beyond my glamour years.. And then I couldn’t get a job hahaha!

C.C. Works out perfecto!

C.C. On that note… Michael, how do ya turn from “professional floral man” to a “dangerous, maniacal, creepy, killer guy?”

M.B. Oh that’s a great question. Well I was never a florist, In high shool I was a flower delivery guy but however, I had a shop in Venice Beach and I was discovered by George Pal there. I wasn’t a florist but what I had was a shop called Avendas Gardens with a business partner and we had house plants and the local artist would put in their sculpture or their paintings, lots of local art stuff ya know. It was just a small, little store I had for about 8 months, didn’t make any money but it did put me in a location across the street from a store that sells very high end inequities to millionaires.

One of the owners’ fathers happened to be George Pal from Warner Brothers, the original producer of War of the Worlds, The Time Machine and Journey to the Center of the Earth. When I met George he said to me “ya know you have a unique look” and he was very gracious and he said “Look, I’m doin’ a movie called Doc Savage” and I was like ” I have those books!” and he says ” I’d like to hire you for two days to be the corner for Doc Savage’s father, here’s the scene and would you be interested please.” I said “Sure. Sounds like fun.” He got me my union card and I wound up having a couple 100 bucks in my pocket after it was done, worked for two days. And I was planning on being a feature photographer either in the northwest territory Yukon or Alaska because I’m a huge fan of the nature. It’s the most beautiful planet we’ll ever experience and we need to keep it genetically altered free if possible.

C.C. Indeed. I’ve wrote music with a gentleman you that you starred in a video with. So, I finally get to ask somebody the question that’s asked to me in every interview I do. What was it like working with Nikki Sixx haha? Smokin’ in the Boys Room haha.. You know I have to bring music into everything.

M.B. Those guys. The Crue are my buddies! They are so down to earth, so honest, so gracious. I didn’t know how it was gonna go on “Smokin’ in the Boys Room.” I’ve been around a lot of people in the rock industry before and some are like Ehhhhh, but with them, right from the get go it was honest, sincere, smiles, “hang with us back stage” here and we misbehaved a lil’ bit there and they were just cool guys and we had a lot of fun. And then at the end of the video when I wiggled my ears they loved it.

It was the most requested video on MTV for a long, long time. And when they cut the ear wiggle out after about a year of it being on MTV people complained so much and wrote all these letters that some body had to go to work and put the 4 seconds of ear wiggle back in the video. And I didn’t know if this was really true, I thought they were pulling my leg. Well one day I had to do some ADR voice over work on a movies called Penny Dreadful and while the guy was setting it up he said ” Hey I used to work for MTV and one morning I had to go to work and on my page it said I had to put back in Michael Berryman’s ear removal from Motley Crue’s Smoking in the Boys Room video…. 4 seconds.” Hahaha! I’m very proud of that Haha! Send the boys my regards. Wonderful guys.

C.C. Your top 3 favorite movies that might inspire you to be a creep in a flick? Who or what movie monster can scare Michael Berryman?

M.B. Well, I would have to say I really like Frankenstein and the Universal Classics, but the one that freaked me out the most is probably The Mummy.

C.C Boris!

M.B. Oh ya. Frankenstein was a sympathetic character. The Wolfman.. Well, I just wanted to BE a werewolf. But The Mummy was really creepy.. And when they would burn the scroll leaves, it just creeped me out. And then when I go older The Exorcist really messed with me. As a matter of fact I’m not ashamed to admit that after I saw the Exorcist (I forget how old I was I might of been 15 or maybe 16) I got on my knees to make sure it had more effect and said my prayers. I’m an ex alter boy, ex Catholic. It really had an effect on me. And the third one I’d have to say… Fox News.

C.C. I gotta wrap this up here. I thank you for your time Michael. I’m always excited to see ya on the silver screen and I wish you the best of luck for the rest of the shoot on The Lords Of Salem. You will no doubt make this flick excellent my friend.

M.B. Well thank you, I appreciate that. You’re a sharp guy and obviously a force to be. I salute you. And drop by my facebook BELOW ZERO sign on as a friend and say that ya wanna see this movie haha! I’m really, really proud of it. I think Eddie, Kristin and I knocked it out of the park. The performances are strong and it’s so well made, it’s just like wow! belowzeromovie.com

Michael and I rapped for quite awhile about the renaissance of 60′s and 70′s music that still holds strong today, how original music rules and formulated bands can be compared to fast food that will make you “artistically diabetic” (Brilliant quote by the way Michael!) Aurthor Lee of LOVE, folk rock, his sister being a mid-wife for John Densmore of The Doors, hanging with Joni Mitchell at The Troubadour, meeting George Harrison, Herb Alfred, Aaron Neville, That 70′s Show, Betty White, Corporate Doom, Satan’s Evil Spawn, our future for our children and our children’s-children, slaves to power and greed, figuring out heaven on earth, humanity, war, protesting and surviving, science, physics and chemistry, Thomas Edison’s lab assistant PHD Professor Mr. Kent, not turning planet earth into a toilet, HG.Wells, Marshall Mcluhan, the powerful influences of technology, gardening, standards, misuse of knowledge, fast food, life styles, Lou Ferrigno, The Devil Rejects, Matthew McGrory and Tiny, Drag Racing, health care, the back of M.J.B.’s Hard Rock Cafe jacket saying “Love All, Serve All, All is One.” blind faith, dead beat reality shows, writing books and Mick Mars. Good times.

Hey, It stopped storming out. That’s too bad.. I like watching the lightning strike the graveyard from Castle Cherry. (Makes for disconnected phone calls with Michael Berryman though..) Sooooooooo, I have noticed some of you are looking quite shabby. Stop that. Get some Lip Service clothes. Turn yer “shab into fab” bitches. Or I will fucking gut you like a fish and cut your eye lids in half… Whoa, whoa, whoa!!! Hahaha, I’m just kidding… I’ve just been spending too much time with Roger Labon Jackson.. He’s the real voice of Ghostface… And Mojo JoJo.. Don’t ask… Just get some Lip Service…. Clothing.

Also check out Berryman’s work.
He’s done a few movies if ya haven’t noticed. And I’m sure I’m forgetting some of them too! Michael say’s: “Love All, Serve All, All is One.” What a great guy!

New TLV video Starring Sybil Danning coming to the ‘zine!

Wednesday, October 19th, 2011 by TheWebMistress

Hey Lippy freaks! This is the webmistress, hijacking Chad’s creepy corner of the ‘zine because he’s busy in his evil lair, cooking up the next The Last Vegas video (starring the Queen of the Action Flicks and all-around badass chick, Sybil Danning!). You’ll see it here in the LS ‘zine on November 2nd … so kick your post-Halloween freakiness into bloody gear with Sybil and TLV (and lots of bloodshed and mayhem, along with some rock n roll that’ll kick your ass)!

I asked Chad about the video, and here’s what he had to say for himself.

“The run down of The Otherside vid is … Basically this deviant rock band is acting up in a sweet lady’s house with bad intentions … Long story short, the tables turn and she massacres TLV. Looks like our sweet lady is a brutal killer … Who knew? Hehehe!”

Checking out these stills the guys sent over, “acting up” and “massacre” are kind of an understatement. You can judge for yourself. Here’s a sneak peek at TLV’s Otherside video.

See all you ghouls and freaks November 2 …

Chad Cherry’s Mid-(ish)Year Review of the Year in HORROR

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011 by Chad Cherry

THE DEVIL INSIDE ‘Special Trash Report’
Chad Cherry’s Over the Mid-(ish)Year Review in HORROR movies!!!

Hello my wonderful Lip Service deviants! I usually wait for a “year in review” for my fav movies, but we seem to be sailing along quite wickedly this year with horror goodies. So, here are some great horror flicks that have gotten C.C.’s stamp of approval already. I’ll only write of the worthy and what I’ve been digging ( besides graves) so far this year.

Here we go, creeps…

THE WARD:

Chad Cherry's Mid(ish)-year Review of the Year in Horror MoviesThe Ward is John Carpenter’s first full-length movie since ‘Ghost of Mars’ in 01. J. Carpenter still believes in telling a great story that will scare you without relying on cheap tricks and gore. Carpenter for me is like Star Trek for “Trekkies.” J. Carp forever.
The story is of a young institutionalized woman who is haunted by a mysterious and deadly ghost. As the evil creeps, the realization of this entity is darker than anything she could ever imagine.

THE WAKE WOOD:

Chad Cherry's Mid(ish)-year Review of the Year in Horror MoviesThe Wake Wood is UK and Irish co-production by horror giants Hammer Films.
A grieving couple, devastated by the loss of their 9 year old daughter, relocates to the remote town of Wake Wood, only to learn of a Pagan ritual that can give them 3 more days with their deceased offspring. Guess what happens when it’s time for her return?

HOBO WITH A SHOTGUN:

Chad Cherry's Mid(ish)-year Review of the Year in Horror MoviesHobo with a Shotgun is a Canadian action exploitation flick based on the winning trailer of the same name from Robert Rodriguez’s SxSw grindhouse trailer contest.

Rutger Hauer. That’s all that really needs to be said to get you to watch this. Let’s see… I’ll try to explain… It’s an out of control, gleefully “gross as hell” homage to low-budget exploitation films. Gory with firepower. Ahhh, the sweet avenging… Hobo with a Shotgun…You know what yer gettin’ into with a title like that. Absolutely cool. Perfecto.

INSIDIOUS:

Chad Cherry's Mid(ish)-year Review of the Year in Horror MoviesInsidious is a supernatural horror film directed by James Wan of “Saw” movie fame.

Oh my goodness gracious!!! It’s NOT the house that’s haunted? Well then, what IS IT? What the HELL is happening here? What’s following this family? Ahhhhh!!!! When you move away from the evil demons and they follow you, you are in fucking trouble… Big time! Ok, I’m not gonna lie. I was actually freaked out by this one a lil’ bit. (How refreshing that was!) J. Wan found the right elements of fear, then slams you with it. I wasn’t expecting this to be so freaky. And I haven’t seen Barbara Hershey (hotter with age) in a scary movie like this since the brutally evil phantom rapist movie ‘The Entity.’ (Can’t stand those scenes in that flick.) This is a creepy good one kids.

RUBBER:

Chad Cherry's Mid(ish)-year Review of the Year in Horror MoviesRubber is a French horror comedy that I still can’t believe was actually made. Writer and director Quentin Dupieux went very, very, very far “outside the box” on this beast.

This film is about Robert. Robert is a tire that comes to life and embarks on a killing spree. He kills by vibrating intensely and psychokinetically causes peoples head to explode. He’s an angry bastard.. This flick is so out there that it’s kinda brilliant. The ending is priceless. Bizarre. Me likes.

_____________________________________________________________________________

There are a lot more doozies that I’ve seen so far this year, but I don’t feel the need to write about ‘em just yet. I think this is a good start if you’re gonna have a date night at home, a sleep over, seance, orgy, or just a relaxing taxidermy session. More movie mayhem to come.

Have I told you all lately how much I would like to drink your blood? Wait, that came out wrong.. What I meant to say is, thanks for supporting Lip Service and rocking out with The Last Vegas this summer. I really appreciate all the amazing feedback and can’t wait to drink your blood… Ummm sorry, I mean, I can’t wait to see you all on the road very soon.
Cheers, Chaddy Cherry.

The Steepwater Band: New Video – Remember the Taker

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011 by Chad Cherry

Chad Cherry’s rock video invasion!

Hello, hello Boils and Ghouls!!!
It’s your old friend, Count Chaddy Cherry, comin’ at ya in the fine summertime heat! Kinda reminds me of my old stomping grounds back in Hell … Hell, Michigan (It’s near Detroit, ya cretins). In 2011′s glorious, firecracker month of July, I did not get the chance to write any fancy-pants interviews about your favorite sci-fi, horror playmates or lovable fiends in the genre you adore so immensely…

Oh no, not this month kiddies …

Ya see, I’ve been spending a lot of my time lately roaming the country-side, filming the “darkness.” Stalking tragically wicked places, haunted forests, abandoned gravel pits (fucking scary), run-down theaters, and all other random freaky-deaky action I could get my eyeballs on. Thus, I deliver the fragments of this reality caught on film to my laboratory, for the slicing and dicing.

“Cut it! Sew it back together! Cut it some more! MUAHAHAHA!!!”

I’ve been honing in on my mad scientist skills, again, bringing you all some different fodder to corrupt your sponge-like brains.. Mmmmmmm, brains … Anyway, I thought you Lip Service junkies would dig the fact that I got asked to do a rock video for The Steepwater Band. This is the vid for their first single, called “Remember The Taker,” from their new record “Clava.”

Sooooooooo for the latest installment of the “Devil Inside,” the almighty GuttyWorks Productions (J.R.Wolfenstein and myself – the fine weirdos who bring you “Ask Chad Cherry“) will premier this dread smack dab to you sexy creeps via the greatest clothing service known to wild hormones: Lip Service!!! It’s ALIVE!!! (Well it’s not really alive, it’s just a video. But the thing that’s sketchin’ in the corner of my lab is! Shit! I think I need to call an exterminator, the grizzly bear traps don’t seem to be working…)
[Memo: My grizzly traps are never used on real animals. Just people. Or my bastardized creations when they run amok.]

The only thing I don’t like about working with video is that the “cutting room” floor never really has any visible blood while I’m actually “cutting”… Hmmm, Oh well, I’ll change that soon enough.

Enjoy your righteous ways and stay cool in Lippy style you freaks I call friends. Oh ya, and enjoy my creation.

The Devil Inside: Sybil Danning – interview with Chad Cherry

Wednesday, June 22nd, 2011 by Chad Cherry

QUEEN OF THE ACTION FLICKS

Sybil Danning - interview by Chad Cherry in the Lip Service webzineYour life is stellar!!! Why? Because, this month, you Lip Service cretins get to look at pictures of supremely talented, half naked HOTNESS! (You dirty bastards!) And you’re gonna learn about one of the sexiest action hero vixens who has ever dawned her powerful presence in the cult films your inquisitive eyeballs and creepy minds could not possibly live without! (And I know I’m not just yappin’ for myself here…)

Of course, I’m speaking of the Austrian actress known for her many roles in B movies, sci-fi, action, and horror films. Boils and Ghouls … Without further ado …  I give you the ever-so-stunning…
SYBIL DANNING.

Sybil became an actress after leaving home at the age of 16. Making her film debut in Komm nur, meins Liebstes Vogelein, portraying the legendary German mermaid “Lorelei” covered by only long blonde tresses. The next year she had a role in one of Robert DeNiro’s first movies, Sam’s Songs. She was cast in Blackbeard along with Raquel Welch, playin’ a high-caliber prostitute. The same year, she appeared in Eye of the Labyrinth, a giallo thriller. Then came The Three Musketeers and The Four Musketeers, again with R.Welch… Oh ya!

She moved to Hollywood in ’78, leaving her friends and family in Europe behind to pursue her career with zero contract, zero agent, and zero idea what the future would bring. But the future was gonna be bright for this serious, educated, physically fit, politically aware, intelligent, and beautiful woman. The 5’7″ blue-eyed blonde embodied all the qualities to take over… and then some. After portraying an extraterrestrial Amazon named Saint-Exmin in the ’80 movie, Battle Beyond the Stars, she earned “The Golden Scroll Award Of Merit” from the Academy of Science-Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror films. Then on to a ton of crucial B films.

Sybil Danning - interview by Chad Cherry in the Lip Service webzineIn ’83 Danning appeared on the cover of the August issue of Playboy magazine. They christened her “Queen of the Action Flicks.” Next she co-starred with Christopher Lee in The Howling II: Your Sister is a Werewolf, playing Stirba, an evil werewolf queen. She then began hittin’ up American TV series. I loved her in The Fall Guy and V. I never missed an episode. She can be seen with rocker Wendy O. Williams (The Plasmatics) in Reform School Girls and, after sketch parody Amazon on the Moon, she founded her own company “Adventuress Production, Inc.” and produced “L.A. Bounty”, which she starred and helped write. She was the hostess of her own collection of 26 action-adventure movies baring the title “Sybil Danning’s Adventure Video” and had her first tailor-made action comic book “Sybil Danning is Black Diamond.” YA!

In the 90s Sybil ran into a setback. While rehearsing a movie stunt, she had an accident in a gymnasium. Forced to rest, she worked with writers on her first screenplay… But the pain worsened. Doctors misdiagnosed her condition and, finally, a surgeon recommended by Jack Nicholson discovered Danning had two severely-herniated discs. She underwent a series of epidurals, followed by traction, and spent over a year recovering.

But, as you all know, you can never keep a good girl down and Sybil rocked it back into public performance. Big time. She returned to the big screen most notably in the movie Grindhouse in a faux trailer titled Werewolf Women of the S.S. This was followed by her appearance in Rob Zombie’s re-make of Halloween. She appeared in the third season of the ‘here!’ series The Lair as Frav von Hess, a sinister vampiress out to kill the vamp whose influence over her son caused her transformation. Oh ya, and she played the succubus in the t.v. series Superboy. Always tough and very sexy dangerous.

Sybil has remained true to her portrayal of strong characters. She’s writing her autobiography and developing new projects she will produce and also appear.

I’ve touched base on one of her flicks in a past Devil Inside article (Werewolves), but came to the realization we need more S.D. in our lives. I thought I would get a more exclusive interview into the mind of a brilliant and talented actress to see what irons she has in the fire. Being the amazing friend she is, she agreed and it goes like this…

Sybil Danning - interview by Chad Cherry in the Lip Service webzineC.C. In most of your movies you play a sexy, dynamic, commanding, super-hero industrial strength woman. Strong roles. Do you ever wonder if this intimidates directors and producers?

SD – Gee, you noticed! No, I don’t think I have ever intimidated my directors or producers because they hired me to play such a role in the first place. If a producer decides to produce or a director decides to direct a movie with such a strong female character, they obviously like those kinds of female characters.  Chances are they probably have a strong female in their lives or wish they had. Thank God for writers who create those roles. In my case, sometimes they re-write them with the ok of the director and producer or even let me play a role written for a man.  It worked for Sigourney Weaver when the producer of ALIEN decided the lead role would be more interesting if played by a woman. Interestingly when interviewed by an L.A. Times journalist and asked if “she now thinks she will be categorized as Sybil Danning playing such roles since this was the first of its kind?” she took it in stride.

Talking about Directors, I loved your interview with my dear friend Penelope Spheeris.  She and I met at the Sundance Film Festival.  Loving her work I sent her a project on an “Icon and his band” which Penelope loves.  Music publishing has been negotiated and cleared.  We can’t say more right now but will once ready.

Sybil Danning - interview by Chad Cherry in the Lip Service webzineC.C. YeYeah!!! Not many actors get their own comic book such as “Sybil Danning is, Black Diamond.” We need more of this.

SD – Yes, my comic book was very successful which took me to the San Diego ComicCon Convention for the first time.  I will be there again next month, on Saturday, July 23 signing the release copies of my cult classic movie BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS on Blu-Ray.  My “Sybil Danning is, Black Diamond” was to become a female James Bond movie but when financing fell through, so too the comic book ended.  I have another exciting comic book in mind in the near future and will let you know.

C.C. I’m thinking you actually might really be a vampire. You’ve hardly aged. Sybil… Are you a vamp? (Hehehe)

SD – Nice pun CC. You’re right; I have been called a vamp.  The vampire part?  Who wouldn’t want to be one?  They’re beautifully pale, sexy, intelligent, successful and rich, not to mention eternally young and beautiful.  I love them and am producing a Vampire movie I will also be in.  However, instead of living the night life – I must have my nights rest to keep up my looks and keep up with my fans. Sophia Loren once told me as I was having lunch with her in her Villa in Rome, she always makes sure she has 7-8 hours of sleep a night and that is her beauty secret.  I agree.  Unfortunately until I’ve found a solution I will focus my vampirism on screen.

Sybil Danning and Sophia Loren - interview by Chad Cherry in the Lip Service webzine

Sybil with Sophia Loren

C.C. You have worked with so many great directors and actors, are there any talented folks you’ve yet to work with that you’d jump at the chance too? Whose films are intriguing to you?

SD – To mention a couple, immediately Leonardo DiCaprio (favorites-AVIATOR, TITANIC, BLOOD DIAMOND) and Russell Crowe (favorites-  GLADIATOR, A BEAUTIFUL MIND, CINDERELLA MAN,)  come to mind.  They are extremely passionate performers, very sexy and personify the ultimate strong male figures emotionally as well as psychically.  I love cars, clothing and movies with strong male/female “Bogie & Bergman” characters of the 40’s.  Director Martin Scorsese I’ve wanted to work with as long as I can remember.   I love the ultimate passion he injects in his movies my favorites starting with TAXI DRIVER, GOODFELLAS, RAGING BULL, GANGS OF NEW YORK, Michael Jackson’s bad Video, THE AVIATOR and pretty much everything in-between.

C.C. You took a hiatus from acting for quite sometime. What sparked your interest to come back?

SD – MY FANS!  It was my first time at the major Memorabilia Show in New Jersey, Chiller Theatre, October 2005. My fans were lined up with photos, posters, magazines, videos, you name it from my movies, some of which I had forgotten.  I signed those and photos I brought and was amazed how many of my fans were there to see me, get my autograph and I listened to how passionate they were about the one or other movie. They asked me when I was going to do another Woman in Prison or Werewolf movie, etc. It was then I realized my fans want to see me again on the big screen.  Always thankful to my fans for my success, I realized how loyal they were to me all the years I was absent and I owed them to go back to doing movies.  Not easy to ease back into the biz after so long, I took it very serious and did what I could to make a come-back.  I did it with Tarantino’s WEREWOLF WOMEN OF THE SS and Rob Zombies re-make of HALLOWEEN which made my fans really happy and me too.  It was my turning point.  I also thank my most loyal fan and friend  to date Jim Blogg who during my years of absence kept his Sybil Danning Fan club:  http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TheLegendofSybilDanning/ alive and hoping for my return.  Jim started, created and is Web Master of my Website www.sybildanning.net.  Thank you so much Jim for your dedication and loyalty. Loyalty is of major importance to me and Jim stood with me.

Sybil Danning - interview by Chad Cherry in the Lip Service webzineC.C. I’ve been fantasizing about a Chad Cherry perfume. I think you can probably help me out with this. What should I do?

SD – Don’t fantasize, do it!  Get your favorite scent, put it in a bottle, and call it “Gets You Off” named after your “Whatever Gets You Off” hot number.  The girls will LOVE it and the guys will want it.

C.C. Brilliant! Ok, most people probably don’t like this question, but bein’ who I am and doin’ what I do… I will always ask. What are you listening to music-wise right now?

SD –Right now.  I just gave it away above – your dirty rock “Whatever Gets You Off!”  I love it!  Great lyrics, rock and Video!  And by the way I also love your beautiful ballad, “Apologize.”  Like Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe, I love your tough and tender sides!  CC, you’re cool, you’re hot!

C.C. I’m going to accept those fantastic, lovely words. (As C.C. blushes like a li’l schoolboy) Can ya tell the kiddies about some of your highly stylized writings and the producing you do for films?

SD – I love writing; though painful when staring at an empty sheet, it’s very satisfying once everything synchronizes and comes together.  I took a 4 day Seminar with Screen writing Guru Robert McKee.  Barry Manilow was in my class.  I’ve written and re-written a few screenplays, nothing I’ve yet produced.  I seriously started when I was flat on my back in and out of the hospital ending with surgery.  I ruptured 2 discs and tore all tissue while flipping a girl over my back in my gym.  Because time is precious, once on my feet again I focused on acting and producing.  Though difficult and frustrating especially in this economic period I find producing very creative because it gives you the opportunity to create elements necessary for a successful movie. All I’m currently writing is my Autobiography for which I have a deadline. I’m very fortunate to have Marshall Terrill bestselling Novelist Steve McQueen: Portrait of an American Rebel, Elvis: Still Taking Care of Business and many others, as my Editor in Chief.  I’m also very happy to say, two-time Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner will produce and star in a McQueen biopic based on two books by Marshall Terrill: Portrait of an American Rebel and his most recent, The Life and Legacy of a Hollywood Icon.

Sybil Danning - interview by Chad Cherry in the Lip Service webzineC.C. Can’t wait. Let us know what’s up and coming in Sybil’s world? What can the fans expect next?

SD – My last movie, VIRUS X released by LionsGate is out and can be found at Blockbuster, Amazon, Netflix and Walmart.  Soon it will also be available on my website www.sybildanning.net with other DVDs, Posters, Photos and other Memorabilia.  I will be at the exciting NEW COMIKAZE (Comic, Anime, Gaming, Sci-Fi, and Horror) Expo in Los Angeles November 5 & 6, 2011. Get ready all my HOWLING II fans and meet me at High-Noon, Nov 5 because I will be auctioning for the first time ever my most popular leather and brass complete costume by MAD MAX designer Peter Mitchell.  I’m producing a “Vampire” movie written by Scott Sanford and will be in it as well.  More on that once I have the financing completed.  I’m also producing a movie/TV series on “RUGER” a character I own.  I wrote the script and have a bible ready for the follow-up TV series. What’s most exciting is that I and my producing partner Les Thomas, a Video Game Analyst, Specialist and Journalist have RUGER in development as a First Person Shooter Cloud Game.  I will reveal more to you as we go along.  Right now I’m holding her design, etc close to my bullet proof vest.  I will give you links to the whirlwind PR we’ve gotten on RUGER at the recent largest Los Angeles Gaming E3Expo in the world.  This has already spread throughout Asia and Europe with whom Les is working.  One thing I can tell you, for sure there will be MAJOR MADAME MAHEM!
All my fans please go to www.sybildanningsruger.com to stay informed on RUGER…or else!

C.C. Yes! Very amazing. So you and I have been toying around with the idea about a The Last Vegas video for a lil’ while now. I see something very grand in the near future. Do you think the world will be ready for this? (I know they’ll be.)

SD –CC, love your crystal balls!  The Italians told me my name in Italian comes from Sibila Gumana, a mystic Fortune Teller, and yes, I too see something very hot and heavy in the very near future. Hell yes, the world is ready because the world is OUR FANS and they are ripe and ready for US!
Thank you and all my Love and Bullets to you CC and all my loyal fans, Sybil.
